Kehalani Development Waiting for Approval of Plan Changes
Developer Stanford Carr plans to build the mixed-use Kehalani Village Center slated to add 200,000 square feet of Wailuku commercial space. The plan was approved ten years ago as part of the Kehalani overall development where about half (1,200) houses have already been built. The planning Department will have to approve the revised plans.
This new phase – the shopping center – will have Foodland, Longs Drug, McDonald’s and an Aloha Petroleum gas station and be located on a 20-acre lot makai of Honoapiilani Highway near Kuikahi Drive. Waiale Road runs along the bottom of the lot and Kaupo Street runs about halfway up the project’s northern end. This is near Maui Lani Village Center. The commercial lot will be entered via Kuikahi Drive, Kaupo Street and Waiale Road.
Stanford Carr’s planning and permitting consultant, Munekiyo & Hiraga Inc., will host a presentation of development plans at 6 p.m. Wed Apr 20,2011 at the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission’s social hall at 1828 Vineyard St.
