Affordable Housing

Let’s face the facts: most families on Maui can’t actually afford the majority of “affordable housing” being offered by many developers. That’s why Maui Tomorrow started calling for “Truly Affordable Housing,” which is affordable to families making the median income of $81,000 year or less. Only 7 percent of the new homes built on Maui meet this definition! We are covering our island with homes that working residents cannot afford to live in, and this is an unsustainable course. Maui Tomorrow advocates prioritization of infrastructure for Truly Affordable Housing projects, in areas where community plans support their development.
Maui Tomorrow works closely with government officials, housing advocates, and affordable housing developers, looking for solutions that will solve the affordable housing crisis. Alternatives include affordable housing land trusts, shared equity arrangements, and County infrastructure funding for affordable housing projects. Please support us to create solutions that will keep Maui Nō Ka ʻOi.
