The General Plan Committee of the Maui County Council will be updating/revising Chapter 2 (Heritage Resources) of the Maui Island Plan which includes the following sections:
-
Cultural, Historical, and Archaeological Resources
-
Shoreline, Reefs, and Nearshore Waters
-
Watersheds, Streams, and Wetlands
-
Wildlife and Natural Areas
-
Scenic Resources
They will review the text of each section first, then review the Goals, Objectives, and Policies of that section next.
They will pick up the discussion again onThursday, June 30th beginning with Shorelines, Reefs, and Nearshore Waters Matrix number 96 ( see 3 column matrix), Objective 3: Water quality that meets or exceeds State Clean Water Act Standards. Then they will move on to the next section..Watersheds, Streams, and Wetlands and so forth.
This meeting is schedule for three hours. It is very likely that they will finish the Shoreline section and the Watershed section that Thursday and possibly the next section on Wildlife and Natural Areas too.
The Public can testify at this meeting on anything that has to do with the text, policies, goals and objectives of Chapter 2 Heritage Resources. Written testimony can be sent via email. It is a good idea to send it via email even if you are testifying in person.
This committee is chaired by Council Member Baisa. What she wants from the public are specific suggestions for revisions of the text, policies, goals and objectives of Chapter 2 Heritage Resources, Maui Island Plan. If you testify on any items outside of this context, you will be wasting your time and their time.
This very, very important chapter is the heart and soul of the Maui Island Plan (MIP). The final approved version of the MIP will guide the policies and decisions that the County makes for land use decision etc, for the next 20 years. This meeting is where the rubber hits the road. This is where your input can make a big difference for the future of Maui.
