Landuse Com. Turns Down Kaufman Up Zoning
Today the Land Use Committee decided not to consider the request by a Makena land owner to amend the State Land Use District Classification of 2.79 acres of land across the street from Oneloa Beach (Big Beach) from Agricultural to Urban. Instead the Committee voted in favor of a resolution to send this item back to the Maui Planning Commission for review and recommendation for a bill to amend the State Land Use Classification for this parcel from Agricultural to Rural.
During previous meetings the Committee had discussed the possibility of changing the State Land Use District classification to Rural rather than Urban, because a Rural classification would be more compatible with surrounding uses. Todays decision seems to reflect a desire on the part of the land use committee to protect the rural, agricultural, and conservation uses of this community area. Thank you to all of those who gave public and written testimony in support of the resolution high lighted in yellow below.
